A Jobi A Gbe A !!!!
Pa Brimoh Agunloye, the Patriarch of our Agunloye Family, was born in Akure, the present-day capital of Ondo State of Nigeria. His parents also hailed from Idiaagba, an enclave of Akure. He was a trade merchant in his early years, travelling from villages to towns selling valuable merchandise; it was in one of these towns that he met his first wife, (Mama Abiara) an indigene of Owo Town, also in Ondo State.
Together, Pa Brimoh and his wife Abiara decided to settle in a small village called UPISA near Akure. Pa Brimoh took up farming as a profession. He also increased the size of his family by marrying two more wives. The three wives had a total of 12 Children; 7 Sons and 5 daughters. The sons’ names were: Omotosho, Olawumi, Adebayo, Olatunde, Aina, Tanimowo and Iyi. The daughters’ names were: Ado, Alabutuke, Pelebe, Olukeregbe and Abigail. The Sons and Daughters grew up to have husbands and wives of their own.
Because Pa Brimoh was such a successful farmer, he was accorded with the praise poetry Omo a musu modi, omo a mokuku yugbo ode, mosupa gi ere bo, which translates to: "A man so successful, made barn walls of harvested yams tubers; able to go hunting in the dark of the night, only to come back with the moon light". History claims that the land and properties of the entire village was owned by Pa Brimoh and he was the paramount Chief (Akapisa) until his death in 1951.
In present day, the name Agunloye is scattered all over the world; we the grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren all took our roots from these 7 sons and 5 daughters of Patriarch Pa Brimoh Agunloye. We are all proud to be called The Descendants of Agunloye of Akure Oloyemekun - Omo Igi Meta Oke Eda; translation - "A proud city of Three Giant Trees facing the high heavens."
Please join us all in Charlotte, NC July 6th-9th, 2023 to celebrate our 3rd reunion! May God Bless the Descendants of Pa Brimoh Agunloye all over the world.
